HMI - Hyundai Italian Team, will take part in the 2015 IRC championship with Corrado Fontana.
After his debut at the wheel of the Hyundai i20 WRC in Rally 1000 Miglia, where the driver and team worked to adapt the Korean World Rally Car to the Pirelli tyres, the driver from Como, along with his co- driver Nicola Arena, will take part in the International Rally Cup, a championship which he already previously won four times (2002, 2005, 2006 and 2013), in addition to the “Trofeo Rally Asfalto” he conquered in 2003.
The goal is the fifth success in the series, consisting this year of four events.
Corrado Fontana: “I am very happy to start this new championship with the Hyundai i20 WRC; I have been doing events in Italy with a World Rally Car since 2011, with many victories in the IRC and the WRC Italy series; I can say that I have reached a very good feeling with the Focus which always allowed me to always keep a race-winning pace; Now everything changes: switching to a 1600-cc engine car, requiring a very different driving style from the 2000cc, but I definitely prefer it! It reminds me a lot of the years in the European championship with the Peugeot 207, although now we have a lot more power; from what we have seen in the 1000 Miglia the Hyundai performs really well, before the Elba Rally we will do a day of testing to refine the use of the Pirelli tyres and find the right feeling with the car. I am really very excited about this new adventure!”.
